Can You Make a Silk Painting?

Step 1

Having collected all the materials (see toolbox), lay the silk out flat and use the gutta to create a design or a picture on the silk fabric.

Step 2

When you are satisfied with your design, begin to brush your silk paints onto the fabric.

Step 3

Watch the paints mix and merge to create glowing colours. Watch how the gutta creates a barrier to the paints.

Step 4

Look at the lovely bright painting created here. This is a still life of a bowl of fruit. The gutta used here was black. You can use this technique to create all sorts of pictures on silk.
