Number 3 Make an Icing Sugar Painting?
Have you ever used an icing sugar painting technique? It really is lots of fun. Why don't you use it to create an Impressionist-style painting?
Step 01
Gather the items you will need.
Click on the toolbox above to see a list of tools & materials you will need.
Step 02
Step 02
Mix a solution of icing-sugar and water (approx. 5 heaped teaspoons of icing sugar to 125ml of water). Use a wide brush to wash a layer of the solution onto a page of art paper.
Step 03
Step 03
Drip thin paint from a dropper, straw or paintbrush onto the paper. Experiment with colours --- you could choose two primary colours.
Step 04
Step 04
Watch what happens! Wow! Look at the way those colours mix and form feathery patterns. Have you created some new colours?
See what effects can be created using drawing inks instead of paints.
Step 05
Step 05
Look at some paintings by the Impressionist painters Monet and Renoir. Notice how soft and blurry the colours are. Why not try an Impressionist-style painting using the icing sugar technique? Paint quickly and freely for best effects.
Step 06
Step 06
Here's another example of an icing sugar painting.

Note: Icing sugar paintings take a long time to dry.
Tip For Teachers:
